Matthew is the Global Practice Leader for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, part of the corporate Health, Safety, Environment and Communities team at Rio Tinto. Matthew has accountability for Rio Tinto’s worldwide environment strategy, policy, standards, and assurance. He also has accountability for strategy development around climate change and the intersection with energy markets, policy analysis and engagement, energy efficiency and energy technology.
Matthew joined Rio Tinto in 2011 having spent 14 years with Shell in a number of senior corporate and project roles, including project finance, government affairs and communications, working in the UK, Peru, Kazakhstan and Russia. Immediately prior to joining Rio Tinto, he worked for the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, leading the energy and climate work.
