Ian joined BP’s R&D Centre in Sunbury-on-Thames in 1986 after a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from Newcastle University, and held technology management positions in the UK and the US before joining INEOS on their acquisition of BP Chemicals in December 2005. His team’s work led to the formation of INEOS Bio, currently commercialising the production of bioethanol and renewable energy from waste feedstock. Ian is a founding board member of the Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (www.ibioic.com) based at University of Strathclyde.
