Daryl has been the Chief Technologist at AWE since 2011, providing the company with a strong focus on manufacturing technology, including launching new initiatives in additive manufacture and Factories of the Future. Daryl joined the Design Mathematics Department at AWE in 1986 after completing a PhD in Computational Research in the Inertial Confinement Fusion Group at University of Birmingham. His senior management roles at AWE include leading the Blast and Thermal Physics Group, and the Plasma Physics Department as they embarked on a major project to build the Orion laser facility. Daryl was appointed Director of Research and Applied Science in 2007, with executive responsibility for physics, material science and high performance computing capabilities. In 2009, he was appointed Chief Scientist, providing independent scientific advice and capability assessment coordinating international exchanges and technical outreach and had responsibility for warhead safety assurance.
