Christian Lafferty joined BT in 1996 as part of a small team tasked with establishing BT’s global Internet access service. As a founding engineer in BT’s first Internet Operations Centre, he has worked on three generations of IP backbone networks. He has a long-standing interest in wireless Ethernet and built one of the earliest 802.11 (‘Wi-Fi’) networks in the UK.

In 2013, Christian joined BT Research and Innovation and was appointed Chief Researcher in June 2016. He has a BSc (Hons) in IT & Computing from the Open University.
