BP Ventures makes strategic investments in companies with distinctive technology that aligns with BP core businesses. Akira’s previous professional experience includes a variety of technology and business development roles across refining, chemicals, marketing, and alternative energy in BP. His experiences include working within and then supporting the spin-out of a company serving over two million persons with energy solutions in rural India and a three year secondment to the UK Energy Technologies Institute (a billion dollar public private partnership between the UK government and industry focused on accelerating affordable, sustainable energy technologies). Akira is a recipient of the 2008 IChemE Award for Innovation, a 2012 Fellow of the Marshall Memorial Foundation and a 2015 World Economic Forum Young Global Leader Award winner. Akira holds a first class MChem Eng from Imperial College London and a BS c in Law from the University of London International Programme.
